Day 0-Seville

We have made it to Seville! The Good news is that our bikes were waiting for us at the hostel. While we were setting up the bikes we had a good talk with the owner of the hostel who has done this ride 7 or 8 times! He said it was beautiful but  tough and on mountain bikes should be happy to make about 70 km per day. We are looking forward to getting the first day done and seeing what it is like.
We visited the cathedral to see it and to get our first stamp on our Camino passports! Attached is a photo òf John and I behind the cathedral just after we got our stamps.

The cathedral is beautiful. Here is an inside shot.

We then walked around to see the area although it is very hot- 34° C. We came on a procession in the adjacent park. There was a huge float, obviously de dicated to the Virgin Mary, carried by men and followed by a band. We had not expected them to go to so much trouble to send us off!!
We are now packing our panniers and realizing that even though we tried to minimize we probably have too much, especially if this heat keeps up.

Here are a couple more shots from Seville. One of that float and the other of one of the many tile images fronting the Plaza de Espana

By the way, for my kayaking buddies back in Toronto, check out these pictures I took while having dinner by the river. Lots of kayaks on the river- maybe we could do part of this trip by boat!!

  1. Hi Dermot and John, Love the blog! Great to see the pictures. Best of luck tomorrow – sounds like it might take you longer than expected to get to Santiago de Compostella. Love,
