We got a great start to day two. The local farmers have cut of access through their property so we had to take the road for the first 15 km to Real de la Jara. The morning was cool and as we did not have to keep our eyes on the ground looking for stone or ruts we were able to enjoy the scenery. The route was made up of lots of rolling hills border by fields of beautiful trees.
After Real de la Jara we were back on a dirt path through fields and passed lots of animals- sheep, pigs, Cows and Bulls and even a couple of large dog a who l, fortunately had no interest in us.
This path eventually ended and we were back on the road for the final ride to Monesterio which was welcome as the last 10 km is one long slow climb.
Shortly after leaving Monesterio we were back on a rocky trail but nothing like Day 1. This trail went through some beautiful treed parkland.
We pulled into Fuente de Cantos for some lunch. A man on the street, recognizing us as ‘pilgrims’ directed us to a place to have our passports stamped. There we were directed to The Restarrange El Gato where they have a deal for ‘pilgrims’. The waiter here was extremely friendly ànd had pretty good English, much better than our Spanish!
From here to Zafra we were back on dirt roads. The guide did say we could take the road as we would have two streams to cross. We opted for the off-road. The streams were fine, the track was pretty stoney and so progress was relatively slow.
The great news – We are in our hotel, Day 2 is behind us. We were a little anxious to see how today would go as it was a distance of 79 km and a climb of 1132m. While a fair bit was on road it had its share of off road and it went very well so another hurdle completed.
We are pretty dusty and hot so those sbowers are looking very good!

Sounds like a good mixed day and what a great breakfast to start with! Really enjoying the reports and photos. Well done.
