For my first post I thought I should provide some introduction to this blog as it is really my first attempt at this.
Firstly I should say we are doing this to enjoy the experience, the countryside, the architecture, the people and the challenge – it is not a race!
The purpose of this blog is primarily to provide details of our daily experiences as we cycle from Seville to Santiago de Compostella along the Camino Via de La Plata (VDLP) and the Camino
Sanabres. I hope to provide daily updates along the way to record points of interest regarding the route, route differences for cyclists vs walkers, challenges, weather, finding places to eat, accommodation etc. My hope is that this will eventually for the basis of a more complete guide to biking the VDLP. To that end I hope to track our daily progress using the App ‘Map my Ride’ which will provide details of the route, including maps, distances, elevation profile, speed profile etc.)
I also hope to make lots of photos along the ride for use in the Guide and hope to upload at least one photo each day to the blog.
As background the blog will include a number of pages to provide background and other information. Part of the intention of these pages is to share our experience in planning for this ride with others who might be thinking of trying it. These pages are evolving and so not yet complete. These include :
Background – a brief description of the route.
The Plan, which provides a page on each of : our schedule, itinerary, our plans for accommodation and a description of what we are bringing along
Training for the ride, provides a review of my training programme in getting from an operation for a new hip last August to undertaking this ride in just over a week’s time.
